Digitalization – Prioritising & Selecting the Best Innovation Opportunities

Initiative Description

In the early stages of technology or innovation projects it is often necessary to make decisions about which projects to pursue and which to drop when only scant information is available. The Opportunity and Feasibility approach aims to design an appropriate scoring tool for any particular case, including: how to choose the factors; how to ensure that the scoring is as logical and objective as possible; how to include the inevitable uncertainty; and how to manage the process, including the treatment of portfolio-level considerations such as ‘balance’. The results can be plotted in different ways to help the decision-making process.

Training Objectives

Support the management of technology and innovation activities: What are the vision and objectives for the business idea? What business and market drivers (and market needs) does this respond to? What steps (and over what timeline) should be achieved?

Training Contents

Topic roadmapping uses templates that that embodies two novel design features: visibility of the process steps and built-in guidance/prompts. These graphical templates in the form of paper wall charts are used to support Workshopsfacilitation.
