PATHFINDER’s draft vision presented at ICT2013
Networking session on the future of simulation and forecasting technologies
From 6th till 8th November the ICT2013 conference hosted over 5000 participants featuring top ICT professionals from industry, academia, and research. Speakers from across the ICT sector have addressed a range of issues from cloud computing, broadband, ICT infrastructures, ICT skills, cyber security, long term visions on the future and much more. Experts also presented details on how to participate in the next EU’s Research Programme – Horizon 2020.
The conference was organized around several major themes like ICT in Horizon 2020, Work Programme 2014 and its Instruments, but also themes like European Digital Girl, Investment Fora and special opportunities for students and young researchers.
Special emphasis during the ICT2013 Conference was on networking. More than 150 networking sessions were organised at ICT2013. They were grouped into 13 topics, one of them being ICT for Manufacturing. In this topic 10 networking session were organized one being on Future simulation, planning and forecasting technologies. This session on the 8th of November 2013 was organized by Paolo Pedrazzoli as coordinator of the PATHFINDER project as a logical consequence of the fact that PATHFINDER is working on the roadmap for the future of these technologies.
The session presented the role of future simulation and forecasting technologies as a lever to increase manufacturing performance and focused on the Pathfinder Vision for these technologies. Paolo Pedrazzoli introduced the subject of simulation and forecasting technologies and proposed the development of a roadmap capable to clearly point out the key challenges for these technologies future developments. By explaining a graphical representation consisting of 3 layers of detail a first view on the PATHFINDER vision was provided.
To show several current advances two ICT-simulation related projects (VFF, represented by Marco Sacco, and Vistra represented by PATHFINDER partner Dominic Gorecky from Smart Factory KL) were introduced and their actual demonstrators presented, with consideration on future evolution of Simulation. Last but not least, Dr. Karnouskos from SAP presented his vision on future challenges for Simulation and Forecast technologies. Over 50 participants exchanged thoughts and discussed the future of these promising technologies for the European Manufacturing Industry.
