Cloud-based HPC simulation of the railway infrastructure for high-speed trains

Alstom Ferroviara is the Italian subsidiary of Alstom Transport, a multinational leader in the railway transportation sector. As part of its ongoing business, Alstom wants to simulate the behaviour of the railway infrastructure due to the transit of high-speed trains. This requires the development and dynamic analysis of a multi-body model. This analysis is very computationally intensive and requires the use of HPC. In this case study a workflow targeting a cloud-based HPC system will be developed and used to perform the above simulations. A further objective is to develop a service based on the multi-body model which can be used more widely across railway-related industries.
