DIH 2018 Annual Event: COMPASIS wins I4MS Disruptors Award
Commissioner Mariya Gabriel and the Polish Minister of Technology awarded the I4MS Disruptors Award to Spanish SME Compass IS on November, 27th, 2018 in Warsaw at the Digital Innovation Hub Annual event.
The prize recognises the company’s outstanding innovation in the field of simulation software for ships design. Together with the Spanish Digital Innovation Hub CESGA and other partners within the EU-funded project Fortissimo, the SME improved the design of vessels’ ability to withstand rough conditions at sea. Compass IS reduced by factor 45 the computational time needed for assessing seakeeping of vessels, making supercomputing solutions more affordable and accessible to other companies.
Compass IS was selected among the best cases illustrating a company’s ability to innovate and implement ICT technologies to meet its business needs, bring radical innovation to their sector and capacity of achieving national or international scale.
I4MS initiative compiled those best cases through a call was open to European SMEs that have received technological and financial support from the Innovation Actions that are part of the I4MS initiative since its foundation: Fortissimo, Cloudflow, CloudSMEs, LASHARE, INTEFIX, EuRoC, Appolo, ReconCell, BeinCPPS, Fortissimo2, HORSE, MIDIH, Cloudifacturing, L4MS and AMable.
The award shows how DIHs and European initiatives are helping SMEs to take advantage of digital technologies to improve their business, bring radical innovation to their sector and reach new markets.
The Digital Innovation Hub Annual event gathered 400 attendees, 60 speakers and 50 institutional representatives and included an exhibition area hosting 12 inspiring use cases and experiments by SMEs related to digital transformation and funded by EU initiatives. The exhibition also included a space for informing about the different open calls and public funding opportunities for the companies and of a corner pitch where other projects could showcase their experiences. Also, parallel to the exhibition, participants took part in matchmaking opportunities between DIHs and SMEs, between SMEs in different countries and between DIHs, but also with other regional stakeholders.
