Quantech is a Spanish SME which markets software to model the metal-casting process. This industry is dominated by SMEs which account for 80% of production. A barrier to the wider uptake of simulation in this sector, particularly for SMEs, is the cost of hardware and software packages. Quantech aims to develop and introduce a Cloud-based-HPC pay-per-use service which would make such simulations more widely accessible, particularly to SMEs. Using this service, end-users would be able to enhance and optimise their cast artefacts avoiding typical defects such as air entrapment, porosity and cold shots.
